HARD TICKET TO HAWAII
Summer is finally here! If you’re dreaming of a seaside getaway, dive with us into the explosive world of legendary Andy Sidaris! Across a dozen feature films, this exploitation cinema veteran created nothing less than his own subgenre: the Triple B series. Short for “Bombs, Bullets, and Babes,” the acronym perfectly sums up these late-night movies. Set in an empire of bikinis and machine guns, they stand out for their complete lack of restraint.
With the cult favorite Hard Ticket to Hawaii (1987), Sidaris delivers the most emblematic entry in his gleefully juvenile cycle. Its premise is surprisingly convoluted, if only to justify the sheer absurdity: stolen diamonds, a contaminated snake, sports journalism, and even eco-terrorism all collide. These tangled plotlines ultimately serve as an excuse to stack up ridiculous action scenes and groan-worthy one-liners—dialogue so outrageously crude it might make Seth MacFarlane blush.
As you’ve probably guessed, Hard Ticket to Hawaii belongs to a bygone era—when anything and everything could end up on the shelves of your local video store. Failing to truly dazzle, this bargain-bin thriller shamelessly cashes in on the success of Invasion U.S.A. and Emmanuelle 4. Still, its gleeful vulgarity is oddly fascinating, earning it a place as a true monument to bad taste.
Now adored by lovers of so-bad-it’s-good cinema, this triumph of kitsch stands as the complete opposite of the Hollywood blockbuster. Forget superheroes—summer is best celebrated in Hawaii, at a 4th Dimension Night!
