Enraciné
The Artist and the Migrant Identity in Cinema
Cinéma du Musée presents enraCINÉ, a new film series that explores the intersections of migration, identity, artistic practice, and cinema.
From April to July 2026, ten artists from immigrant and Indigenous backgrounds will each select a film that has profoundly shaped their understanding of identity, belonging, and cultural continuity. These screenings form the core of a public program that brings together cinema, conversation, and community engagement.
The project is grounded in the idea that cinema helps us understand who we are. For many newcomers, second-generation immigrants, and Indigenous people let alone artists, cinema becomes a space of recognition, confrontation, and emotional grounding. enraCINÉ offers these experiences a platform to be discussed and explored by inviting artists to reflect on the films that influenced both their creative practice and their personal journey toward self-actualization.
Each screening will be followed by a discussion with the guest artist to contextualize the choice of film in relation to their journey of identity and artistic development. Audio clips will also be recorded with each artist so that the initiative can reach beyond the cinema.
enraCINÉ has been made possible thanks to the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
