YESTERDAY THE EYE DIDN’T SLEEP

In the silent mist of the Bekaa Valley, on the border between Lebanon and Syria, someone sets fire to a truck. Within this tight-knit Bedouin community, young Gamra has gone missing — perhaps hiding, perhaps on the run.

As her cousin Yasser sets out to find her, he knocks down a man from a rival tribe. His sisters, Rim and Jawaher, are then chosen to step out into the night as an offering.

Will their sacrifice be enough to preserve this fragile balance, or will the flame that is burning eventually spread through the whole village?
