About
Special 16mm screening, presented in partnership with The Film Society.
To be preceded by samples of 1970s erotic 16mm films typically shown at 'peepshow' booths on 42nd street. Come see this very special 50th anniversary presentation. Strictly 18+.
This stunning film announced to the world the arrival of director Martin Scorsese, screenwriter Paul Schrader and lead player Robert DeNiro along with a whole new side to Jodie Foster. The director paints a picture of New York City with stark, unforgettable images--steaming sewers, rain-slicked streets, glaring neon lights—that together constitute a vision of hell on earth. All this is helped immensely by Bernard Hermann’s visceral score and Michael Chapman’s grainy cinematography.
Nominated for numerous Oscars, it won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Offered here is a gritty 16mm print with fantastic colour that was projected by film profs at New York’s School of Visual Arts where Scorsese guest-lectured.
