SHORT SESSION 2
About
THE LEBANESE FILM FESTIVAL IN CANADA
- "I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING RIGHT NOW" by Hussen Ibraheem
Arabic with English subtitles
Synopsis: A downpour, a taxi, a journey through forgotten pasts and lost futures — and a decision: which ones do we choose to keep?
- TAKE CARE OF MY JOHNY by Anthony Bou Rjeily
Arabic and French with English subtitles
Synopsis: Take Care of My Johny is a tender and intimate documentary about love, family, and letting go. At its heart is Johny, the only son of a deeply loving Lebanese family, who finds love abroad and chooses to begin a new life with his fiancée, Eloïse. What begins as a wedding film gradually turns into a farewell, a prayer, and a silent plea from a family watching their son leave his country, perhaps forever.
- CHILD IN THE FRAME by Emilio Bou Onk
Arabic with English subtitles
Synopsis: In a quiet corner of Lebanon, the walls of a family home bear witness to a slow and silent transformation. As dementia gradually blurs the boundaries of memory and identity, a daughter must grapple with the emotional weight of a shifting reality. Child in the Frame offers an intimate portrait of caregiving, exploring that fragile moment when the roles of mother and daughter irreversibly reverse, and where love becomes a form of survival.
- THE TREE OF HELL by Raed Zeno
Arabic with English subtitles
Synopsis: Raed accidentally discovers that the beautiful tree growing in front of his home is in fact an invasive species threatening the biodiversity of Lebanon’s forests. He then embarks on an exploration of this tree alongside his friend Hadi and Dr. Muhammad, a specialist in invasive plants, against the backdrop of another kind of invasion the country is facing—one embodied by Israeli attacks targeting both people and their environment.
Screening followed by a Q&A.
