QCC #27: BOUND
About
In July, QCCMTL presents the debut feature from Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski: Bound (1996), a taut, stylish, and deliciously subversive neo-noir where desire, power, and manipulation intertwine with precision.
The film follows Corky, an ex-con, and Violet, the girlfriend of a mobster, as they devise a plan to steal a large sum of money and disappear. But things quickly spiral, the mind games intensify, power dynamics shift, and every move becomes a matter of survival.
Upon its release, the film stood out for its bold and unapologetic depiction of a lesbian relationship at the center of the story, not as subtext, but as the driving force behind its desire, narrative, and gaze.
Driven by magnetic performances from Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly, Bound has since become a cult classic: a film as sexy as it is dangerous, as playful as it is radical.
A thriller that tightens its grip, and never lets go.
