QCC #24: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
Synopsis
In April, QCCMTL celebrates the 25th anniversary of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001), the glam-rock phenomenon by John Cameron Mitchell that left a lasting mark on early-2000s queer cinema.
Adapted from the cult off-Broadway musical, the film follows Hedwig, a singer born in East Germany, surviving a betrayed love and a life spent rebuilding herself. On stage, every song becomes a confession, every performance an act of survival.
Part punk cabaret, part romantic melodrama, part musical road movie, Hedwig explores identity, desire, and transformation with a freedom that still feels rare today. Beneath the makeup and excess lies a deeply human question: how do you become whole when you feel broken?
Twenty-five years later, its energy remains intact, flamboyant, vulnerable, radical.
An unforgettable cult classic.
