Jan Bojarski, a young Polish engineer, takes refuge in France during the war. There, he puts his skills to use forging identity papers under the German occupation. After the war, his lack of official documentation prevents him from patenting his many inventions, leaving him stuck with poorly paid odd jobs… until the day a gangster offers him the chance to use his exceptional talents to print counterfeit money. This marks the beginning of a double life he keeps hidden from his family. Soon, he finds himself in the crosshairs of Inspector Mattei, the best cop in France.
