FMA: ANNÉES EN PARENTHÈSES 2020-2022
Synopsis
Free Admission
The years 2020 to 2022 unfolded like years in parentheses, deepening inequalities, anger, and popular uprisings. Confined to Montreal, filmmaker Hejer Charf saw her projects abruptly canceled. Compelled to create, she asked fifty friends, acquaintances, and colleagues—artists and intellectuals from Canada and abroad—to send her images and sounds.
These were interwoven with international news footage, film excerpts, literature, and poetry to produce a documentary poem—feminist, optimistic, and politically engaged—punctuated by memorials for those lost: bell hooks, Moustapha Safouan, Nadia Lotfi, Etel Adnan, David Graeber, Hélène Châtelain, Sarah Maldoror, Nawal El Saadawi, Marie-Claire Blais, Maradona, Moufida Tlatli, Lina Ben Mhenni, and Jean-Luc Godard.
