Synopsis

Presented part of the series “Ancient Rome: The Great Classics”
A collaboration between Cinéma du Musée and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Two young Romans, Encolpius and Ascyltus, argue over ownership of the teenage slave Giton. The boy chooses Ascyltus and goes with him. After attending an extravagant banquet hosted by a wealthy freedman, Encolpius is imprisoned by Lichas, the emperor’s purveyor of pleasures, and finds himself in captivity with Ascyltus and Giton. After the fall of the emperor leads to their release, Encolpius and Ascyltus embark on various adventures. Ascyltus is killed, while Encolpius, rendered impotent, struggles to regain his virility.
