About
As part of the “Perspectives on Art” series.
In collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
Following the screening, Philippe Harbert, Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at MMFA, will lead a Q&A with director Ron Mann and narrator Nina Munk.
Acclaimed director Ron Mann delves into the captivating rise and fall of Clairtone, an audacious Canadian electronics company founded by Peter Munk and David Gilmour during the vibrant 1960s.
Renowned for their high-end stereos and colour televisions that epitomized iconic mid-century design, Clairtone soared to international acclaim, becoming a symbol of Canadian ingenuity and modernity. However, within seven years of its meteoric rise, Clairtone Sound Corporation was no more.
Narrated by Nina Munk, Peter’s daughter, Clairtone chronicles the highs and the lows of one of Canada’s most unsung innovations and innovators: the one-of-a-kind stereos and the immigrant father who made them.
