Cinéma Beaubien contribues to the vitality of its community, and showcases the best Quebec and international cinema.
December 3, 1937
The cinema is inaugurated under the name LE BEAUBIEN, and seats 400. It delighted cinephiles at a time when Montreal had a hundred or so neighborhood cinemas. The building is soon listed as a historic monument in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough.
1941
Le Beaubien is sold to Canadian Odeon Theatres, which administers it under the name LE DAUPHIN.
2000
Owned by Cineplex Loews Odeon, which was facing bankruptcy, Le Dauphin was forced to close. Citizens, merchants and politicians mobilized to save the institution, and asked the Community Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) to support them in their efforts. It was thanks to their efforts that the venue avoided permanent closure.
Fall 2001
A new management team, headed by Mario Fortin, takes over the reins of the new CINÉMA BEAUBIEN. In the years that followed, the cinema underwent extensive renovations, adding 5 screens and digital projectors. Since then, Cinéma Beaubien has been a resounding success. In addition to the support of its loyal audience, it has carved out a place for itself on the Quebec film scene. The Beaubien, as it's now known, is the darling cinema of arthouse film buffs.
